Join Congressmen Sean Duffy and Ron Kind at the U.S. Capitol to highlight the Congressional efforts to record the stories of WWII veterans through the Veterans History Project. Our mission is to take WWII veterans' stories first to our families, then to our neighborhoods and our communities across the country.  

This event is in conjunction with Public Law 106-380, which authorized the Veterans Oral History Project Act.  The goal of this legislation is to collect, preserve, and make accessible personal accounts of American war veterans for posterity and to better understand the realities of war.  The documentary, Honor Flight, is in cooperation with the Library of Congress Veterans History Project to highlight the stories of individual veterans.

HONOR FLIGHT SYNOPSIS

"Honor Flight" is a documentary about a community coming together to show their thanks to living World War II veterans, before it’s too late. The volunteers race against the clock to fly every local WWII veteran to the WWII memorial in Washington, DC. The trips are called "Honor Flights" and for the all-but-forgotten veterans, who are in their late 80s and early 90s, it's often the first time they've been thanked and the last trip of their lives."Honor Flight" gained national attention when its premiere broke the Guinness World Record for the largest film screening in history this summer at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI with over 28,000 people in attendance.

ABOUT THE VETERAN'S HISTORY PROJECT

The Project collects first-hand accounts of 
U.S. Veterans from the following wars:

• World War I (1914-1920)
• World War II (1939-1946)
• Korean War (1950-1955)
• Vietnam War (1961-1975)
• Persian Gulf War (1990-1995)
• Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts (2001-present)

In addition, those U.S. citizen civilians who were actively involved in supporting war efforts (such as war industry workers, USO workers, flight instructors, medical volunteers, etc.) are also invited to share their valuable stories. For more information visit: www.loc.gov/vets.
